Calvert HEED helps you prevent, manage, or defeat diabetes.
GET INVOLVED
HEALTH SCREENINGS: Screenings are an important part of identifying people with diabetes. We will offer diabetes screening to heighten awareness, educate, and link participants to DPP and DSMP while assisting with primary care access. In addition, we will host an Annual Community Health Fair in collaboration with the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which will feature a variety of health screenings and services in partnership with community organizations.
There are two types of activities included in this program:
HEALTHY EATING: This program will provide cooking classes using current technology through teleconferencing and live demonstrations on how to prepare nutritious and well-balanced meals for minorities across the lifespan, with the goal of improving healthy eating habits.
This program will address healthy, well-balanced diets by working collaboratively with minorities such as African Americans, Latinos, and other groups to examine diet changes that meet diabetic standards while maintaining cultural preferences, which is crucial for compliance.
Classes will be led by a Registered Dietitian in collaboration with faith-based partners.
