When: September 14, 2021, 10 - 1:15 pm, EST

Presenter : Peggy Kolodny, ART-BC, LCPAT

FREE: NO COST, REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Description:
Dr. Bruce Perry's Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics, a neurodevelopmental approach to treatment of traumatized children will be presented. Additionally, art and play therapy directives will be integrated into this model to aid in assessing and informing specific developmentally-sensitive interventions from the "bottom-up" of brain functioning that "...match the needs and strengths..." of each child. Participants will learn several specific expressive arts and play directives to mediate missed opportunities in each stage of brain development for reparative healing. These arts and play activities, with a focus on rhythmic movement, mirroring, bilateral scribbling, and "The Squiggle Story", will be demonstrated.

Objectives:
  • Define Perry's Neurosequential Model as applied to art and play therapy
  • Demonstration skills needed with specific neurosequential art interventions for the traumatized child in play therapy
  • Identify two art and play therapy interventions for each of the three neurodevelopmental levels of brain function: Brainstem, Limbic and Cortex

Presenter:
Peggy Kolodny is a trauma-focused Licensed and Board-Certified Art Psychotherapist and graduated from George Washington University. She is the co-founder of the Art Therapy Collective, a private practice in Owings Mills, Maryland.
